$-$$ Get the best deal for your online shopping (part 1)

Have you ever wonder how to get the best deal for all your purchases? The truth is you can and you just need to be an intelligent consumer.

Here are the basic steps:

1) Use the right credit card (and not debit card) for your spending. There are different strategies which we will discuss further later. Just be wise and pay on time as these late payments and interest charges can be detrimental.

2) Sign up for Cash Back program such as Rakuten (formerly Ebates) and Mr Rebates where your cash back can range from 1% - 20% or even more! Either ways, you need to monitor your cash back history to make sure that you get these cash back as I had several instances where Rakuten missed these transactions. 3) Set up specific deal alerts (e.g., for apple watch series 5) on deal websites such as Slickdeals.net or bensbargains.com. Sign up for deal newsletter such as  Likeacoupon.

4) Look for promo code online, or from your affiliation. For example, if you are still a student or have access to your edu email address, use Myunidays or ID.me. If you are an employee, check out your employee networks for deal such as corporateperks and ticketsatwork.

5) Find retailer(s) where you can get the lowest/no sales tax. With the recent tax change (e.g., Nexus law introduced in 2019), most retailers have to charge sales tax now but it's still possible to find those that still don't. If you live in Urban Enterprise Zone (such as Jersey City, NJ), note that the in-store tax is ~ 3.3% instead of online tax of ~6.88%.

6) Wait for Sales such as Black Friday, Friend & Family.
